Formerly St. Francis Piano Camp in Little Falls, the Young Artist Piano Camp has moved to the University of Minnesota-Duluth campus overlooking scenic Lake Superior. The new location offers many benefits including larger facilities, more practice rooms, and a brand new on-site recital hall. Piano Camp is a week-long experience for highly motivated teenage piano students. The camp allows for musical growth through an intense week of private lessons, master classes, forums, discussions, music history classes, and interaction with other students and teachers. The curriculum is based on keyboard literature, composers, performance, and each student's individual needs. Camp allows students a chance to get to know teachers and other gifted and dedicated students. Meeting and bonding with other musicians is incredibly inspiring and motivating. Perhaps for the first time in their lives, students will be able to have a common musical experience with others on their level. Students not only leave with increased excitement and commitment to piano, but also with new friends who will encourage their love for the instrument. The energy, passion, and friendship found here is what draws many campers back year after year. Although there will be time for fun, Piano Camp is quite rigorous. Students will be expected to practice a minimum of two hours a day in addition to lessons, master classes, and performances. There will also be many opportunities to listen to performances by their peers and the clinicians, so students will have a chance to be a receptive audience member as well. Because of this unique immersion in a musical environment, students will acquire new knowledge of piano repertoire, practice and listening skills, technique, and an increased ability to communicate musically. The Young Artist Piano Camp has become the foremost camp of its type in Minnesota. Our highly qualified clinicians have worked extensively with teenage pianists and have many award-winning students to their credit. The clinicians are in-residence at the camp and are available for conversations and sharing throughout the day.
