| The Central Minnesota Music School has been determined to be tax exempt under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Tax Code. This statement, or one much like it, is on most of the mail you receive from CMMS or any other nonprofit organization, but how often do we actually read it and think about the meaning?
CMMS, unlike many nonprofit organizations you may hear about, makes most of its operating funds by earning income from programs. This earned income allows us to pay the bills and provide you, our families, with the basic services you have come to expect from us. Recitals, studio space, Pianos Galore and More!, and many other services are a part of the package. We have consistently and proudly ended the year in the black for many years now — quite an accomplishment for a small
nonprofit!
However, our status as a nonprofit also allows us to accept charitable donations, and it allows donors to make their charitable donations work for them on their taxes, too. You may not be aware of the enormous impact these donors have on our programming. What WOULDN’T we have without the generous financial support of our members and friends? The waiting area, with books, toys and magazines; instruments and headphones for the early childhood programs; some of the current grand pianos; the many new Recital Hall chairs;
scholarships; the pictures on the walls; and the new multipurpose boards for the classrooms. And this is just the beginning of the list.
Please consider making a tax-deductible gift this year. We have two special funds — Scholarship and Artist’s Grand Piano — that you may designate specifically for your gift. Please call
the business office, or speak with a member of the CMMS Board of Directors for more information! |
